Cascadia and 49X recalled again over brake valves

· 2 min read

Which trucks

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is recalling about 2,404 trucks:

  • 2020–2023 Freightliner Cascadia
  • 2022 Western Star 49X

NHTSA recall number: 26V-583. DTNA recall number: F1039.

The problem

These trucks were already covered by earlier recalls (22V-817 and 23V-073) for corroding front-axle brake modulator valves. DTNA now says they got the wrong repair. Its software fix works on other chassis setups but is not compatible with these trucks.

If a front-axle modulator valve corrodes, the truck may pull to one side when the stability system brakes on its own. That means braking triggered by Electronic Stability Control or Roll Stability Control.

The fix

Dealers will replace the front-axle brake modulator valves at no cost. Trucks that were already repaired under the earlier recalls still need this new repair. Owner letters are expected to go out around November 8.

What it means for you

  • Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or call DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and give recall number F1039.
  • Don't assume you're covered because your truck was fixed before. This recall exists because that earlier fix didn't take on these trucks.
  • Watch for warning signs: pulling during a stability event, or ABS or stability warning lights. Report them to your shop and write them up on your DVIR.
  • Book the dealer visit early so the downtime fits between loads.
